TMJ Flare-Ups – What to Do When Pain Spikes

Flare-ups can be managed with some simple at-home strategies:


  • Apply ice for 15–20 minutes (Day 1-2)

  • Apply heat/ warm compresses 15-20 minutes (Day 3+)

  • Eat soft foods and rest your jaw

  • Limit talking and avoid yawning wide

  • Try gentle jaw stretches or breathing exercises


If symptoms last more than 3 days, contact your provider.
